A lot of you have heard me say this before, but this real estate section has to stand on its own eventually. Some people may find this channel without knowing our other stuff, so I want to make one thing perfectly clear, this channel is for people who are ready to either build in Costa Rica, buy property, start a business, or anything related to real estate.
Once you’ve been on this site and taken a look around, you’ll see a lot of our older videos in the playlist that are still very relevant. You’ll find information about whether Costa Rica is the right place for you and whether you should invest in property, buy real estate, or just rent for as long as you’re here. When you’re ready, the listings will be here, and we’ll be ready for you too. We’re taking it slow, so stay tuned.
You know, we’ve been making videos for our living and traveling in Costa Rica channel for 14 years, and everything seemed to be two steps forward, three steps back. So, we’re going to try to do this a little slow. Right now, we have listings ready. They’re coming, trust me. You’re going to see some stuff. We’re just slowing down here, okay? This needs to be said. I don’t know how many real estate companies, like Century 21 in the United States, would say, “Don’t come and see us until you’re ready to purchase something.” Well, that’s what we’re telling you. And I’m going to tell you who should not buy anything, purchase anything, or invest anything. For sure, if you’re coming here on a relocation tour, thinking about living in Costa Rica, moving here, and making a life here, do not buy if you’re on a relocation tour. If you’ve been on vacation in Costa Rica, and you know it’s freaking beautiful, that’s what happens on those relocation tours and vacations.
It’s intoxicating and people like to act when the iron is hot. That’s why you go into real estate and want to buy land because you love Costa Rica. Don’t do it. It’s an intoxication, and it’s exactly like being drunk. I’m not saying you guys drink or have done drugs in the past, but you know that sweet spot after about eight beers where you’re like, “I love you, man,” and everything makes sense. That’s why you drunk text and drunk dial. Everything seems so perfect, “Yes, I should be doing this.” Well, that’s probably why Las Vegas has those wedding chapels. So, we’re going to say, “Don’t do that.” You have to live here. You have to live here for at least two years, or very close to it. “Why two years? michael, why two years?” Because if you move down here, you like Costa Rica, and you move here, it’s a honeymoon period for you. You may not know it’s a honeymoon period, but it is for a good year and a half. You’re doing other things. You’re doing things that are a distraction in a sense to the actual living part of here. Like getting married, that first year is kind of blissful, a lot of sex and everything, right? But eventually, things fade, and it gets to be a more normal thing. Sorry about the sex reference. So, you should be down here for two years or you should have been coming here frequently.
I know people who have been coming to Costa Rica for about 10 to 15 years. Over time, they have come to know the country and have decided to purchase something big, like a business, Airbnb, or teak farm. However, they have spent enough time in Costa Rica to make these decisions. The first year and a half here is like a honeymoon period, and I don’t have any hard facts, but this is my experience.
People who say that Costa Rica is not for them usually do so after 20 months to 4.5 years. That’s why I recommend not investing or purchasing anything during the first year and a half. Rent until you are positively sure you want to buy, build, invest in land, or do anything else. This site is for you if you’re ready to make a move.
Anyway, I’m michael alan, the travel coach, and I’m freaking out about real estate. Things are going to pop up, so look at them and do your homework before you do anything in Costa Rica. I appreciate all of you who have subscribed to my channel, even if you don’t care about Costa Rica. It’s hard to get subscribers on YouTube nowadays, and I appreciate all of you who have helped me.
