What Was Said In the Video
Hey guys, I’m michael alan for travel Costa Rica now and a real estate man. We’re just starting this channel and we’re trying to get good content on here. Kind of go slow. It’s hard in the YouTube world nowadays. I would appreciate a subscribe, even if you’re really not interested. A subscribe helps me. If you hit the notification bell, that will help you to know when we put out new content about anything real estate in Costa Rica. We give you the good and the bad, and are not trying to sell you anything.
All right, so anyway, I want to give a shout-out to my brother in Ohio. He made me think of this, he made me see the air of my ways. In the 14 years I’ve been making videos about Costa Rica, they’ve always been either living here as a permanent resident or traveling here. He asked me, “Mike, can people own property who don’t really want to live there?” I was like, “Oh my god, yes!” And why haven’t I made that video?
All right, so you don’t know who I am. You don’t know I make other videos. You ran into this because maybe you’ve been to Costa Rica or maybe you haven’t, but you’ve heard about Costa Rica and you’re thinking, “Hey man, I’ve got a little bit of money. Let me look around.”
Here’s the thing. Now, I want to make it perfectly clear. I’m not trying to sell you anything. I do not care if you move or buy something in Costa Rica, but I do want to let you know a couple of things. So yes, you can. You do not have to live in Costa Rica. You do not have to be a resident of Costa Rica to actually buy property here. It’s very, very easy.
Now, I’ve got a couple of recommendations. I don’t believe that you should be looking around if you’re thinking about, “Oh, I want to invest my money. I heard about Costa Rica.” I don’t think it should be coming from that wavelength. I actually just think you have a little bit of extra money and you’re like, “I would like to have a place, but I have no expectations about it.” If it becomes a rental, if later on you can sell it for double, I think that’s fine. I just don’t think it should be your reasoning to buy a property down here.
I think it should be more like, “I would like to have a place in Costa Rica.” Costa Rica is beautiful. I would like to send my friends and family there. Because if it’s not, it’s gonna turn into that, “What are the two best days of your life? The day you buy the boat and the day you sell the boat.” I don’t want your property to become that. So, I just think you should go, “Hey man, I would like a place in Costa Rica,” and kind of that’s it. Now, you could rent it out, yes, you could make money. Now, you’ve got to remember Airbnb that payed. Sorry, but that was a long time ago.
I think, probably even wherever you’re watching this, the United States, all the big places, well, here too, there are a million Airbnbs. You could do it. You could throw it on there. You could get a property manager here, but I think it might be even better.
Costa Rica can kind of sell itself with friends and family. It’s that beautiful. It’s a totally bucket list place to go, so I think you could probably rent your place just by telling people, and then the word of mouth in your little neighborhood, your church, your clique, or whatever. And you could easily get a property manager down here. I would recommend probably buying in something that’s a little more secure. Maybe even pay for a gated community.
You have monthly fees to get that security and maintenance, or you can get house sitters, but you know, that’s a whole another thing. I’m sure you can understand that. You would really have to trust those people. I’m not sure you would want a house just sitting somewhere unattended, even in the best security. I’m not sure if it’s worth it. It might be a little stressful, maybe not. Maybe you could secure it enough, but yes, you can buy something and you can buy it pretty easily.
So, I just want to let you know that, and if you want to know more about anything real estate, take a look at this channel, and just go around, look at the playlist. Or you can get a pretty good vibe of living in Costa Rica or vacationing in Costa Rica on my other channel.
